According to the insurer Norwich Union, the number of burglaries in the UK is set to double by the end of 2009.

The reasoning behind this claim is that as people become short of cash ,due to the current economic climate, they turn to crime in order to find money.

Historically, the rise in the number of burglaries follows a rise in the unemployment figures and the same could happen this time.
